About

Hey there! I’m Prateek Pattanaik from Damanjodi, Odisha, India. I’m a Class XI student and live in the Koraput district of Odisha. I’m interested in anything and everything that has to do with Lord Jagannatha, may it be music, art, dance, literature, sculpture, crafts, and the like. Thus this site. The intricacies weaved meticulously around the cult extend to ranges immeasurable. No other place in the world may have such a monumental tradition, with such an extraordinary degree of precision, and devotion in everything that lies within it.

From centuries, the people of Odisha have looked up to the Lord as their Raja. The old mother has looked upon him as a dutiful, frolicsome son she is proud of. The sevakas have looked up to him as their master.  The daitāpatis call him their very brother. The angry poet has scolded the Lord of the Universe, for some hurdle in his life, and has been further angered by the Lord who keeps on smiling in his immersing glance. Children have discovered in him an ever-smiling face, a friend rather than a God. Devotees have looked at him as their saviour. Rationalists have found in him the end of logic.

I have myself seen with my very eyes, the care which they exhibit in all their duties. From the garland-weaving ladies to the so-called ‘unpopular’ Paṇḍās, in everyone of the 36 classes of sevakas, not on a single occasion have I observed the lack of the utmost care, as if for a member of their family- “What if a whiff of my breath touches the food Jagā will have?”, “better I tie a cloth on my mouth while taking it to him.”

Through this blog, I aim at digitising to store and preserve all the ancient, invaluable information in a easy, searchable, and mainly reliable index. Let the myriad nature of the age-old cult not be lost gradually in the chasm of modernisation.
